Casa Roverella is a charming and secluded two bedroom cottage with its own private pool, at the end of a quiet country lane just outside the beautiful hill town of Sant'Angelo in Pontano in Le Marche, Italy. This region, with its picturesque hilltowns, long Adriatic beaches and stunning mountains, is becoming known as a more unspoilt alternative to neighbouring Tuscany and Umbria.
Roverella is a sympathetically restored, traditional stone house built into the very rock of the hillside, with oak woods behind and spectacular views of the rolling countryside and the Sibillini mountains from all rooms and terraces. Because the house is the last on the lane, there is no passing traffic at all and lots of privacy.
The house can sleep 4 adults comfortably,
with two double bedrooms on the top floor. One bedroom is a double with
an arched door out to the garden and a window overlooking the mountains.
The other bedroom can also be arranged as a twin and this room looks
out over the woods towards the nearby town of Penna San Giovanni. Between
the two bedrooms is a good sized bathroom with shower.
Downstairs is a lovely dual aspect living room with a comfortable sofa,
large wooden coffee table and armchairs. There is a hi fi, TV/DVD player
and a selection of books and dvds.
The terrace off the living room has a barbecue, swingseat, dining table and chairs. Because the terrace is shaded by a large oak during the middle of the day it is the ideal place for lunch or just to sit and read. The swingseat has a great view of the mountains and (the honeymooners tell us) is perfect for romantic cuddles at sunset.
There are steps down from this terrace to a lower terrace outside the kitchen. Also furnished with a table and chairs this area catches the early morning sun and is an ideal spot for breakfast.
The kitchen is well equipped, with a gas hob, electric oven, toaster, dish washer, microwave, fridge/freezer and a good selection of crockery and kitchen utensils. The table can seat 6 if necessary. Attached there is a utility room with a washing machine and clothes horse.
Unusually for a house of this size, Casa Roverella has its own private pool. With a stone terrace and set amongst mature olive trees the pool is a real sun trap and totally private, and has an even better view of the mountains than from the house. Local activities include horse-riding, fishing and swimming in the crystal-clear water of nearby Lake Fiastra. Golf fans can enjoy the championship course at Conero, with clubs for hire and less than an hour's drive. For the adventurous, the nearby National Park offers parascending in the mountains, kayaking, quad-biking and hiking. Miles of sandy Adriatic beaches are only 30 minutes drive away. Our village alone has 3 restaurants, and there are dozens more within a 15 minute drive.
How To Reach Us:
UK - From the UK, Ryanair and EasyJet fly from a variety of routes into Ancona (1 hour), Rimini (90 mins), Bologna-Forli (2.5 hours) and Pescara (2 hours). Booking far ahead can turn up some great deals.
Germany - There are daily Lufthansa flights to Ancona from Frankfurt and Munich. By road, we are 5 hours from Milan following the A14 coast motorway south, then turning inland at Civitanova.
Ireland - From March 07, Irish visitors can now fly direct with Ryanair to Bologna-Forli which is only a 2.5 hour drive. Alternatively, take the short hop to London and change.
US, other Europe & International - Ancona, Pescara and Rimini are also serviced from Paris, Barcelona,Bucharest and many other European cities. The international airports at Bologna and Rome are both an easy 3 hour drive, with surprisingly few directions needed to find us.
